A Wednesday
10/10
Simply hats off to it! A brilliant and rare combination of a thriller script, excellent performances, state-of-art direction and moral value.
0.3
Very rare you will find such movies in the Bollywood industry, where most of the movies' stories are derived from Hollywood or the films are made keeping in mind the action and comedy loving population.
It was a relatively short movie, as compared to the normal Bollywood standards, but its every minute was full of thrill. The film was devoid of any songs, contrary to 95% Indian movies, to make sure the quality of entertainment (which we get from the thrilling and chilling moments) does not fade away.
It seemed that Naseeruddin Shah put all of his life's experience behind his stunning performance in the film, and he admitted that in a recent interview published in a local newspaper. Anupam Kher's was also a brilliant performance. Other notable character was that of Jimmy Shergill; his was an impressive personality.
I just hope that more of such movies are made in Bollywood and we get to see such moral imparting stories in future. Other good reason to make such films is that people would get variety!
Finally, the movie shows the world that Bollywood is also capable of making excellent movies, as is Hollywood, and does not shy in making such movies with the fear of getting lesser revenues. 10 out of 10. -

Bad Boys II
7/10
After watching Bad Boys I recently, I had huge expectations from its sequel. While Bad Boys I was a comedy blast (even though it was released 14 years ago in 1995), the second one in the series was okay kind of movie. The plot was ok, genuine comic scenes were not too many, and vulgar comedy was in abundance. But after all, it was Will Smith. And being a huge fan of his, I enjoyed his character and his dialogues.
0.3
Hadn't it been for the ending part & climax, which was the best part in the whole movie, I would have been disappointed with the movie on the whole. It was the last gun battle between the police and the mafia that compensated for the other rather blunt part. The police (or TNT) carried out their last operation ingeniously. My 7/10 for the movie just because of some good comedy scenes (though they were rare) and for the climax part. -

Batman Begins
10/10
Oh boy, what a movie it was. I have from my childhood been a big fan of Batman. What ever type of a Batman fan I was, I was no big a fan than my best friend. He was kind of a "super" fan for Batman.
0.3
Anyway, as I was talking about this movie, I had a damn good time watching it. The first half was just incredible; nice story, nice acting, and nice direction. The second half was almost all action, but then, good quality action.
It is no wonder that this movie gets a 10/10 rating from me, and let me tell you that it is one of the rarest movies to get a 10 out of 10 from me. -

Burn After Reading
5/10
One of the worst movies I had ever seen. But still it was viewable due to Clooney-Pitt duo. 5/10

Catch Me If You Can
7/10
The film is based on a true story, an old American true story. Directed by Steven Spielberg, characters played by Tom Hanks & Leonardo DiCaprio, I could not have expected more from the movie.
0.3
The story was very nice, though a bit boring at times, but those times were very few in number.
The culprit (DiCaprio) commits crime and then another and another and goes on and on... till the FBI discovers that the government has lost more than a million dollars. Then the cop (Hanks) chases, finds the culprit, the culprit escapes, the long chase begins again, then finds him again, culprit escapes again, and finally surrenders himself. Cool. :D -

Equilibrium
8/10
Now this has got to be one of the best movies I saw recently. It was yet another fine piece by Christian Bale (star of the latest Batman series). It was just the kind of films I like - futuristic, science-fiction, action, fight-scenes, and above all, fine acting. The story is gripping, although the end could have been better. This is a true balance of all the elements it draws from many other movies. :)

Good Will Hunting
7/10
The film is an oscar winning one; it won the oscar for the best story which was jointly awarded to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who also star in the film. I found the movie to be OK but not as good as it's been touted.
0.3
A friend of mine recommended this movie to me and said that it was one of his best of favorites. So, I was quite excited to see it. The movie began with a seemingly nice and convincing story. A young man (Matt Damon) had the gift of solving absurdly complex mathematical puzzles within minutes. This talent of his was discovered by a gold medalist Maths professor at the college where the boy worked as a member of the cleaning crew.
The Maths professor helps the boy fetch many lucrative offers, one of them was the post of "code breaker" in NSA. But the boy refuses each one of them due to his bonding with his friends (homies).
The boy later meets a girl who he eventually starts loving. Later, the girl had to shift to a new location to pursue her further studies, but the boy didn't go with her because he could not leave his friends with whom he had spend all his life.
The Maths professor then brings a friend-cum-counselor (Robbin Williams) for the boy to help him make right decisions in life.
The boy had a number of choices and is confused about which one to choose. But in the end, he feels he made the rightful choice. So, what choice was it? See the movie to know about it. ;) -

Hancock
7/10
Yesterday, I went to see Hancock in a theatre nearby. And that was the second day of film release in India. Although the original release date was on 4th of July, the release was delayed by one whole week due to reasons unknown to me.
0.3
The way Sony had been advertising Hancock on the television and on the Internet, I was pretty sure it would be a nice watch, and that is what it turned out to be in the end. The poor rating of the movie on IMDb ( 6.9 ) and Rotten Tomatoes ( 37% )didn't deter my plan to watch the movie.
Yesterday was raining and raining wildly here in Jalandhar. But the rain had stopped till the evening, and my friend and I were able to reach the theatre in time. Despite the rain, the theatre witnessed a packed croud, eager to see the movie, just like me, maybe drawn to the movie due to the wide-scale ads on TV.
The film began and the fun started. Will Smith in his best of form, and that too a comic form, just imagine. This was till the first half, which constituted a well-written script, good acting performances, and a nice story.
The second half began and the story got intense; intense to a point I didn't expect it to go. The second half was devoid of humor, err... wild and funny humor. Ok, nothing wrong if we take the story aspect here and that was understandable. The story went on and the second half finished as it shouldn't have, leaving me wanting some more out of it. The ending part could have been a lot better, but it wasn't.
Anyway, the movie ended with closing credits and I got off with my friend towards the exit point. But before we could get out, we saw a short clip between the credits. It was a nice shot, Hancock saving yet another life.
All in all, it wasn't a bad watch, it was rather nice watching it. But because of the second half, I am giving it a rating of 7, though I usually do not do this much harm to Will Smith starers.
Who knows Hancock could spark a new generation of superhero, a frustrated superhero (as they used to call him in the trailers)? Maybe, this was the first of the Hancock series to come ahead... -

i, Robot
9/10
Today, I got to watch i, Robot movie, featuring Will Smith. Although it’s a quite old movie now (released in 2004), the reason it being a futuristic science fiction attracted me to watch it. Earlier I got several chances to watch the film, but I couldn’t really build up my mind to watch it at those times.
0.3
I had suspected the movie to be another of those unrealistic sci-fi types, but I was certainly proven wrong as the movie proceeded towards the end. Though one cannot easily imagine a world full of human-serving robots and it’s consequences, Isaac Asimov has described that scenario wonderfully in his book i, Robot, on which the film is based. I was surprised to find out later that the original book was first published way back in 1950. Damn! This particular author had a brilliant imagination and creativity at that time too! Of course there is no doubt this and other works of his make him one of the most influential science fiction authors of all time.
The ending of the movie was very good and the script, the events, and Will Smith’s acting (of course) were all well put out. All in all, I really enjoyed the movie and was deeply inspired by it. You just ought to watch it, if you haven’t yet already. -

Ocean's Eleven
9/10
Another good movie I saw recently was Ocean’s Eleven. Ask me honestly and I would say this was the best one I had seen in some past 1-2 years. The story was good, the whole acting crew very good, and the comedy was just fantastic. Add to that the “sophisticated” style acting of George Clooney and the dashing Brad Pitt. And then there was one of may favorites Matt Damon too. All the other artists were good too. So, all in all I really enjoyed watching this movie, so much that I would still love to see it again and again and again and again!
0.3
I am impatiently waiting to see Ocean’s Twelve which is the sequel of Ocean’s Eleven. Hey, there is Ocean’s Thirteen too. So, some nice movies are just waiting for me around the corner. -

Ocean's Thirteen
8/10
A perfect close to a wonderful series. I would have loved to see more in the series, but the official word is that this was the last installment. I'll miss it thoroughly.

Ocean's Twelve
8/10
As the second installment of the Ocean's series, it was highly criticized because of several reasons, primarily some flaws in the storyline.
0.3
Well, I feel, yes, this movie was not as good as the first one, but which movie's second part is? We tend to complain about flaws in the second or succeeding parts, but that's just because we found the first part to be "good" because we were introduced to a whole new world in it. This applies to many movies - Star Wars, Ocean's series, Harry Potter, you name it!
So, I was telling that I really enjoyed this one, though I wished the main theft was a bit more complex. The storyline was good, hilarious and entertaining. The soundtrack was mind-blowing and I loved it. :) -

Rock On!!
9/10
This is a bollywood movie; saw in a multiplex nearby. I had huge expectations from the film, primarily because the well-known and "talented" young director Farhan Akhtar debuted in the film as an actor and a singer. Another reason for my expectations were the trailers. And guess what? The movie really came up to my expectations, even better than that.
0.3
Now, where to begin from? It's got to be the first bollywood movie that I saw having a perfect blend of story, direction, music and acting. Especially the story was very good. It obviously got very good "critical" reviews from all over India, and was a hit. But, as expected, it did not do very well on the box office (in terms of earnings) because of the action and romance loving audience of most of India. The film featured neither of the above two elements, but overall, it was very good (hey, that must be evident from my rating). -

Singh Is Kinng
4/10
One of the baseless-story based films I have seen in the recent time and wasted my time literally watching it. To add to this disaster element in the film, the direction was extremely poor. All events were occurring too fast to justify themselves "feasible" at all.
0.3
The only consoling factor in the whole film was Akshay Kumar, my favorite Bollywood actor. The comic roles of all other actors were ok, but the story was so loosely bound and not-so-hilarious that I found myself desperately wanting to smash the screen!
Had the direction in the film been a little better, the complete story (or at least parts of it) would have made much more sense. Although good comic scenes were there, but they were rare. And hey, I am giving it a rating of 4 just because of those rare to find comedy scenes and some fine music.
Watch the film either if you are an Akshay Kumar fan too (like me) or if you have nothing (NOTHING) else to do. -

The Dark Knight
10/10
Simply awsome! Cannot compare it with the first one (Batman Begins) as both movies are good in their own place, but this was definitely no less than the first one. Just the inspiring element was missing, which was what I loved in the first part, but overall, it was an excellent movie. One of the best. 10/10

I have since long been a fan of martial arts and kung-fu movies. Before watching this one, I had heard a lot of good things, particularly about its comedy. I got to see this movie today, and I must say what a watch it was.
0.3
Right from the beginning till the end, the movie was entertaining. This has to be one of the best Jackie Chan movies I've ever seen. Plotted in an ancient, mystical world, it had everything to be remembered for a long time. Although a bit predictive at times, the story was overall good. But I guess the "predictive" nature of the movie in my mind could just be because I've seen these type of movies in the past, like Lord of the Rings and alike (in terms of story).
And yes, the comedy was indeed good, if not the best, especially Jackie Chan scenes. And those of Jet Li too. Did I say Jet Li (that serious looking guy)? Yup, Jet Li was all impressive with his martial arts and a little bit of humor.
I would conclude my sayings on this movie by the very much cliched statement "It is a must watch!", especially if you are an adventure & comedy lover, though I wish the martial art scenes were a little better and more realistic, especially the "kick-in-the-air" ones. But you don't have to conclude anything with this point of mine; the martial arts fight scenes were incredible. :)
The Forbidden Kingdom will certainly go down in history as a very good Chinese fantastical story based movie. -

The Last Samurai
9/10
Very rarely does one find a movie which is rich in both the story and the moral implied by it. The Last Samurai is undoubtedly one of them.
0.3
Tom Cruise plays Nathan Algren, a former American army soldier who had fought the merciless war against the Red Indians. He's shown to have hated the ways of the American army since the war time.
When Algren is captivated by the Samurais in Japan, he gets to learn the style of living and the traditions of those people. He falls in love with the Samurai way of living, and devotes himself till the end to save the Samurais and their traditions.
Katsumoto was the leader of the Samurai community and a very influential character for Algren. Both of them fight for the rights of Samurais till the end. -

The Spiderwick Chronicles
8/10
Some people said that the movie didn't live upto the initial hype it got. But I say, it was a rather good movie. Maybe that's because I love to watch adventure types involving kids and their families.
0.3
The story was brilliant, one remains captivated throughput the movie by the innovative world of whole new creatures. -

X2 (X-Men 2)
10/10
Since my childhood, I had been an ardent follower and fan of X-Men. Began watching it as X-Men Evolutions on Cartoon Network. But never considered watching the movie series until just recently. After watching the first one in the series - X-Men - I was very impressed. The movie lived upto my expectations, and each character role was well done, especially my all time favorites Wolverine and Cyclops, though Jean Grey could have been a little bit younger.
0.3
As goes the general hypothesis that sequels are never better than the original movies, I was quite convinced X2 was one of those sequels. But it proved me wrong, dead wrong. In fact, X2 is one of the best sci-fi movies I have ever seen. The story was excellent, action scenes & special effects very brilliantly done, and each character was given sufficient role (except, of course, Kitty Pride).
The return of Wolverine, revelation of Kurt Wagner, a cameo of The Beast, escape of Magneto, new looks of Rogue, and the sacrifice of Jean Grey - these were all lovable scenes.
Undoubtedly, my 10/10 for this masterpiece. This movie has left me with good expectations from it's sequel X-Men: The Last Stand.
